Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy, a 45-minute gameplay showcase on avatar creation, battles and castle exploration

After many appearances during the summer season, Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy had been very discreet in recent weeks, even though the Halloween period perfectly suits his world of witchcraft. No matter, he will be back no later than tomorrow and it won’t just be for a short trailer like the latest for an exclusive quest playstation.

It’s througha presentation of gameplay broadcast this Friday, November 11 at 7:00 p.m. on Twitch and Youtube that game director Alan Tew, the senior environment artist Boston Madsen, the Community Manager Chandler Wood and the community guest host James “XpectoGO” Whitehead are going to give us a little tour of Hogwarts, introducing the fights and the user interface, in addition to showing in detail the creation of our avatar. There will therefore be many reasons to be in front of your screen to discover all this. We will add the video feed if possible for you to follow everything from this article, before we summarize everything.

Update : for no less than 45 minutes, we were able to discover the creation of the avatar, a short trip to the castle and see the basics of the combat system. Many presets can thus be selected before customizing our character in more detailwhether it is his face, skin and eye color, haircut and eyebrows, whether or not he wears glasses, whether he has freckles and moles and even scars. More options will be unlocked as you progress through the game, with the ability to change some elements, but not its basic structure or name. Only two voice options will be available and 4 difficulty modes (Story, Easy, normal and Hard). And if the appearance is left to our discretion, it will still be necessary to choose a dormitory between witch and wizard.

As we disembark at Hogwarts in 5th grade, a Wizard’s Guide will be entrusted to us and will act as a progress monitoring indicator in the menu, with exploration, combat or quest challenges to catch up with other students. The owner’s little tour showed us many elements, such as the hourglasses counting down the points of the houses, but no mechanics of gameplay will not be associated with this, although the script refers to it. The interface will feature a minimap and display equipped spells at the bottom right, with options to remove elements from the HUD according to our tastes. A tool wheel was even mentioned without being shown. Navigation through the castle will be facilitated by discreet visual cues, whether architectural or via colors, a predominance of green indicating for example that the greenhouse is not far away. Changes will also take place depending on the season and a certain feeling of life will be perceptible, between the vegetation and the many students we will encounter.

And if a day-night cycle is included, there is no life simulation aspect of a witchr. So we won’t have the stress of having to choose which course to go to in real time, the structure of the game dividing the story into chapters with in each of them missions to complete. Going to some courses may be part of the plot while others will be optional, but can potentially unlock spells then used for other ancillary activities. A sample quest was shown with some Zenobia Noke asking us to find his balls. On the other hand, no, we will not be able to play it, the developers having had to make choices, but still wanting to reference as many elements as possible in compensation. On the other hand, we noted that the lip synchronization seemed weird, unless it was just the voices that did not match the look of the characters…

Finally, it was at the “secret” dueling club of Lucan that the fights were presented, being qualified as fencing at a distanceusing R2 (the gameplay was on a PS5 dev kit) to perform a basic throw that can be followed by combos. If only 4 spells can be equipped at a time at the start, this number can increase to 16, giving almost instantaneous access to a rich range of moves. And to know what to use, enemies will be protected by shields of different colors to break with the right spell. Otherwise, a halo will appear above our head when an attack is imminent, like a sixth sense, allowing time to dodge. A talent system will then come into play to improve our approach to combat, especially if we want to wield black magic.

Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy will be released on February 10, 2023 on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC and even on Switch, and will be entitled to several editions which have been detailed.
