Hogwarts Legacy will be released this year for the PS5 and Xbox Series X as well as for the PS4 and Xbox One. However, last-gen players will probably have to cope with a significant disadvantage – a free next-gen upgrade will probably not be included.

The first stores in the US and UK have stocked the long-awaited pre-order game Hogwarts Legacy. A closer look reveal the deals not just the likely price of the upcoming RPGbut also suggest that publisher Warner Bros. will forego an upgrade feature between last-gen consoles and the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Hogwarts Legacy: The upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series could be expensive
The US and UK stores Best Buy, GAME and Smyths Toys have Hogwarts Legacy listed on their websites. The PS4 and Xbox One versions cost depending on the retailer 5 to 10 British pounds / 10 US dollars less than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. The next-gen versions are expected to be based on the new industry standard and will therefore probably cost 70 US dollars – in Germany, new triple-A games currently cost between 70 and 80 euros when they are released.
While the price difference between generations is nothing out of the ordinary – Sony got into the anger of many PlayStation fans with the release of Horizon Forbidden West because of the different pricing of the versions – the provisional covers of the Xbox version also lack a reference to the Smart Delivery Feature. This recognizes on which console the game is installed and ensures that Xbox One games upgraded on the Xbox Series X|S consoles, if this is possible. If the feature is left out of Hogwarts Legacy, that would indicate that a free upgrade from last-gen to current-gen consoles isn’t planned.
Xbox: Smart Delivery is not available for all games
Also the recently released one Wrestling simulation WWE 2K22 does not support the Smart Delivery feature. Instead, the Xbox One and Xbox Series versions have two different product pages in the Microsoft Store. Although the last-gen version can be played on the new consoles, it does not offer the same performance.
As the industry evolves from last-gen consoles, the the free next-gen upgrades are becoming rarer likely to occur. Whether or not Hogwarts Legacy will still incorporate the feature will probably become apparent over the next few months. Until then, you can get in the mood for the fantasy RPG with the gameplay trailer.
