(Boursier.com) — The group Holcim proposes Michael H. McGarry, former chairman and CEO of PPG Industries, a global leader in specialty coatings, as a new independent member of its board of directors. The election will take place at Holcim’s annual general meeting on May 8. All other members are candidates for re-election. It is proposed to re-elect Jan Jenisch as chairman of the board of directors.

With the proposed appointment, Holcim’s board of directors will consist of 10 members, 9 of whom are independent according to the Swiss Code of Best Practices in Corporate Governance and the criteria defined by the DJSI. “Holcim continually strengthens its Board of Directors to ensure that it includes diverse backgrounds, experiences and expertise in all key areas relevant to its business,” explains the group.

A United States citizen, Michael H. McGarry is an accomplished global business leader who most recently served as Executive Chairman of PPG Industries in 2023 and then as Chairman and CEO from 2016 to 2022. During his tenure, PPG Industries has led a successful portfolio transformation to become one of the world’s largest specialty coatings companies, with net sales of $18.2 billion in 2023.
After joining PPG Industries as an engineer in 1981, McGarry held roles of increasing responsibility across all regions, from sales and market development in Pittsburgh, USA, to leading a specialist company in Bangkok, Thailand, and as Managing Director of PPG Europe. , in Swiss. A graduate of the University of Texas in mechanical engineering, McGarry attended Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program.
