Holdener and Gisin are eliminated – Shiffrin takes the slalom victory in Schladming, Rast lands in 4th place

For the first time ever, a women’s World Cup race took place in Schladming on Tuesday. The route on the Planai replaced the scheduled women’s slalom in Flachau, which had to be canceled due to the high number of corona cases. With Wendy Holdener in 3rd place and Camille Rast in 7th place, two Swiss women put on a strong performance on the Planai in the first run and thus put themselves in a good starting position for the second run.

Rest with the best result of your career

Rast from western Switzerland lived up to her surname and raced down the slope at full speed. In the end, they are only separated by 12 hundredths from the podium, but fourth place in Schladming is their best World Cup result so far. «I am very satisfied. After a week in bed, I can only be satisfied. I could have avoided the mistake in the lower part because I knew from the first run that the snow would be difficult there. I guess I’m just not an early riser so these night slaloms are perfect for me. There could be more of it. I now have to make it into the top 10 or top 5 on a regular basis and at some point the podium will come. It would be a dream by the end of the season, but I still have to work a lot for it. “

Holdener is disappointed

The second run ended less positively for Wendy Holdener. The Schwyzerin threaded after just a few goals and remained in Austria without points. “I lost the stick in the urine needle, then I went all-in and then it went quickly. I didn’t specifically take a lot of risk, just wanted to go ahead and implement my plan. The disappointment is there, but at the same time I’m a bit emotionless, “says the visibly disappointed Holdener in the SRF interview.

US superstar Mikaela Shiffrin grabbed the day’s win, with a second run close to perfection. The Slovak slalom dominator Petra Vlhova failed to win the race after taking the lead in the first run, but with second place behind Shiffrin she won the small crystal ball in the discipline ranking ahead of time.

Gisin is out again

Michelle Gisin had another bad day. In the first run, the 28-year-old threaded into Kranjska Gora, just like last weekend, and missed the chance to get another sense of achievement before the Olympic Games. The Engelberg woman’s disappointment after the out was written on her face: “Today I can’t explain it very well. I got away safely upstairs and found my way in better and better, but then I hung up. It’s incredible. There are now twice as many threaders in the race as in training. I actually like the slope because it’s so steep. It’s just a shame. Today we turned down the aggressiveness. I can’t explain it to myself right now. ” Then even tears came to her. «I fought so much and did so much that I can be here. I hope that I’m ready again in Cortina, ”says Gisin emotionally.
