Going to Antarctica for six months to watch penguins and manage the Post Office on a small island in Antarctica: this is the experience that Vicky Inglis was able to live at the British base in Port Lockroy. Recently made redundant from a job in the environment, Vicky Inglis applies for the offer. His profile was finally retained by the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT) association, which takes care of the island.

During her CDD, the young woman livedan amazing experience“: “I observed the penguins, the construction of their nests and the birth of the chicks. I discovered other wild animals such as humpback whales, killer whales, leopard seals, seals and even sea lions. In addition to these observations, Vicky Inglis had to take care of the Post Office, receiving mail, and welcoming visitors. For six months, she received nearly 7,000 euros. But the association warns:It’s tiring work, there is little network on the island and little break time“.

UKAHT is looking for a new team to work from November. For four positions, the association received more than 6,000 applications. Among the decision-makers is Vicky Inglis, now hired full-time in the organization.
