Car traffic in front of the Gotthard in a southerly direction increased to 14 kilometers early on Saturday morning.
The traffic information service Viasuisse warns of a loss of time of up to two hours.
Even before the Chiasso-Brogeda border crossing to Italy, cars are already backed up for four kilometers – an additional 40 minutes lost.

In principle, Viasuisse recommends detouring via the A13 through the San Bernardino tunnel. Travelers to Italy are also recommended the alternative routes via A9 Simplon/Grosser St. Bernhard or the Lötschberg car transport.
Holiday traffic had already accumulated over ten kilometers in front of the north portal in Göschenen UR on Friday afternoon.
