Holidays: pay attention to the new signs for bathing areas

Blords, be vigilant. On the beaches, from this summer, the flags indicating the bathing conditions change color. It is advisable to be informed to avoid unpleasant surprises and to put oneself in danger. Finished the triangular format, now make way for rectangular flags, which therefore also change color for some. As BFM reports, the green flag will continue to indicate a supervised swimming area with no apparent danger and red will always indicate a prohibited swimming area. Polluted areas will always be marked with a purple flag.

Notable changes. The orange flag, which previously signaled a supervised bathing area with limited or marked danger, becomes yellow. The dark blue flag, which indicated a bathing area supervised only during the opening hours of the aid station, becomes two-tone: red and yellow.

Wind conditions will be signaled by a conical orange flag. For those using inflatable buoys, for example, it is important to refer to them carefully to avoid being deported too far from the edge.

Four new traffic signs

Finally, the green flag with a red dot, which delimits the areas where swimmers can rub shoulders with surfers or other water sports enthusiasts, is replaced by a black and white checkerboard.

Four other flags appear. A sign surmounted by a red triangle and a red-barred circle representing a swimmer, placed at the start of a specific area, will indicate a temporary ban on swimming.

A prohibition sign – with a red circle, on a white background, and crossed out in red – will indicate an area prohibited for swimming for a reason, for example an area reserved for fishing.

The blue circle will indicate the areas where swimming will be subject to authorization. And, finally, the yellow triangle will indicate if a sports competition is in progress and warn swimmers not to get too close.
