Hollow Knight Silksong present at Summer Game Fest?

Just days before Summer Game Fest 2022 kicks off, new clues are coming in here and there about some games potentially being announced. This is especially the case for the sequel to one of the most popular metroidvania, Hollow Knight, whose fans have been waiting for the next installment for more than five years already!

Hollow Knight Silksong king of the Summer Game Fest?

Originally planned as a DLC of the original game, Silksong was however announced as a separate project quite distinct from the opus dedicated to the Knight. However, for three years now he has been very discreet about his ambitions even though we know that he should be dedicated to Hornet, the protective princess of Hallownest.

While we hoped for its presence at E3 2021, Silksong will have surprised and even disappointed by its absence. A disappointment and an expectation so great that the title of Team Cherry could well be the subject of a memorable announcement for fans of the license during the Summer Game Fest 2022. This expectation is also growing despite the team of development since small teasings here and there have taken place in recent months… Without giving the slightest really concrete and official news.

In December 2021, many gamers had expected to see an announcement appear from nothing during the Game Awards after a supposed leak from the Nvidia GeForce Now database. In vain. In March 2022, just three months later, it was Hornet’s official voice actor, Makoto Koji, who hinted to one of her Instagram followers that the project was very advanced when he asked her if she was still working on the Silksong project:

Yep, I finished my work on Silksong.

But, there again, still nothing… Until the day after this innocuous declaration where the Steam platform itself accidentally revealed a release date for the game which would be scheduled for September 1, 2028. Yes, yes, 2028! The supposed leak was of course quickly removed from the platform, and we finally won’t have anything more to sink our teeth into about Silksong since.

But this Monday, June 6, 2022, new twist! Summer Game Fest emcee Geoff Keighley himself posted a tweet which will have given rise to a new wave of hope for players in need of the metroidvania genre. In concrete terms, he revealed very few interesting things except that he had just received in his mailbox a “World Premiereof a supposedly highly anticipated game.
This could have concerned almost any game, yet the fact that Matthew Griffin added a layer of it by responding soberly to this tweet by evoking a “teasing” aroused the curiosity of many players. Matthew Griffin is in particular responsible for the marketing and publishing of the Team Cherry studio projects… The same one who is at the origin of Hollow Knight!

Well, technically Hollow Knight Silksong wouldn’t really be a “World Premiere” since in 2019 already a gameplay video of the game was unveiled during E3. Also, Matthew Griffin not only manages Team Cherry but also Mongoose Rodeo, another studio working on another metroidvania titled Crowsworn.

So can we really trust these speculations? Difficult to say in the state since the elements available are quite thin! However, it’s a safe bet that Hollow Knight Silksong could be one of the major games unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2022 since Crowsworn only ended its crowdfunding campaign a year earlier.

The stars seem aligned for this year! Let’s hope that players will finally be able to know this weekend when their epic in the guise of Hornet can begin!
