320,000. This is the number of home helpers who will receive, before the Christmas period, an exceptional Covid bonus of 1,000 euros for their work. President Emmanuel Macron announced on Tuesday August 4 that the state and departments would release 160 million euros for this initiative, reports France-Presse agency.
This bonus will allow "to have the 1000 euros bonus that the other" nursing staff had, explained the head of state to home helpers, during a visit to Toulon.
The money will be paid "before Christmas", after examining the files "between September and December", allowing "full recognition of the role" they played during the epidemic crisis, according to Emmanuel Macron.
In his speech, he recalled that home helpers, who intervene in support of 800,000 elderly people with loss of autonomy and 300,000 people with disabilities, were until now "the forgotten of the Covid premium" .
In June, the home employment federations denounced an "injustice", noting that professionals in the sector (women in majority, 97%) are excluded from the bonus granted to front-line staff in the face of coronavirus.
The government announced last April the allocation of a bonus for the staff of all medico-social structures, whether public or private.
But until today, the payment of this premium to home helpers was the responsibility of the departmental councils, since it is they, and not the health insurance, which finance the assistance and support services to home.
