Home office: Make the most of your lunch break

A lunch break should not be missing in the daily stress of work – this also applies in the home office. These tips guarantee variety.

The new partial lockdown brings many working people back to their desks at home. However, that doesn't mean there is less to do. In order to be able to do your work in the home office in a concentrated and successful manner, you should plan a longer break every day at lunchtime. How long this is exactly is up to you. The only important thing is not to spend the time off at your desk.

Healthy snacks provide energy

The food should not be forgotten while working. Because if you are hungry, you are usually irritable and less productive, and cravings can also result. A light lunch can be easily integrated into a break and provides energy. A fresh salad with small snacks such as crispbread with hummus as a side dish is the ideal meal for lunchtime. If you still feel hungry in between, nuts and dried fruit are ideal for snacking. Hearty dishes should not end up on the plate during the break, they make you sluggish and make you feel full.

Phone call with friends or relatives

Social contacts are difficult, but not impossible, during the partial lockdown. Telephone calls with friends put you in a good mood and distract you from the daily stress of work. Experts advise avoiding topics such as work and job during breaks. This is how you come up with positive thoughts again and return to your desk in a good mood. In the home office, a call to your parents or grandma can also make you smile.

More power after a short nap

Why not use the break for a short nap? Power napping is nothing more than a short sleep a day. Ideally, it shouldn't take longer than 20 minutes. This ensures more efficiency at the desk. If you have the opportunity to linger on the balcony on a sunny autumn day, you can also fill up with a portion of vitamin D.

Fight tension with yoga

Tension is common in the home office. To be able to relax, it is advisable to do a yoga or meditation session. It doesn't have to take long. It is important to switch off completely. PC, cell phone, tablet and Co. should therefore be ignored for 30 minutes. Afterwards, be sure to stretch your back, because the constant sitting causes him the most trouble. The cat-cow stretch exercise is ideal for this. It stresses all of the back and doesn't require much effort. Simply stand on four feet and alternately bend and straighten your back.

The extended child posture relaxes the buttocks, hip flexors, knees and spine. To do this, sit on your heels and then stretch your arms and upper body forward and put them down until your forehead touches the ground. Hold the position and breathe deeply in and out.

If you are not a fan of yoga and meditation, you can go for a walk instead. Fresh air is good for the mind and is particularly important during the corona pandemic. In the study you should also ventilate vigorously several times a day.

Enjoy coffee on the balcony

When concentration is over, small breaks can help. Even going to the toilet or coffee machine can distract from the daily stress – and add variety to the routine. The favorite song at full volume banishes depressed mood. If you need fresh air instead, you can enjoy espresso, coffee, tea and more on the balcony, in the garden or in the courtyard.
