Homemade cough syrup: For the child without and for mom with a shot

Especially with children, you don't want to go straight to the chemical club when you have a cough or cold. Therefore, here are two recipes with which cough syrup can be easily brewed yourself.

Homemade cough syrup: recipe for children

You need this:

  • a large onion
  • honey
  • a small, sealable vessel (e.g. an old, rinsed jam jar)

That's how it's done:

  1. Cut the onion into small cubes
  2. Layer the cut onion alternately with the honey in a vessel
  3. Let stand for 2-3 hours until a juice has formed
  4. dosage: give a spoonful of the juice to the little patient several times a day

in the fridge the onion juice will keep for a few days.

By the way, most children really like onion juice, but smell like a little kebab after taking it.

Homemade cough syrup: recipe for adults

You need this:

  • 1.5 onions
  • 0.2 liters of water
  • 100 g honey
  • 2-4cl high percentage alcohol e.g. Rum (brown)
  • 1 tbsp dried sage leaves
  • 1 tbsp dried ribwort
  • 1 tbsp dried thyme

That's how it's done:

  1. Cut the onions into small cubes and put them in a saucepan with the water, honey, sage, ribwort and thyme
  2. Bring everything to the boil and simmer for about 5 minutes
  3. Then pass through a sieve
  4. Finally, 2-4 cl rum (or other alcohol) are added, which makes the onion juice in the fridge has a long shelf life
  5. dosage: Take 1-2 tablespoons 3 times a day

Of course, you can do both also taken by the whole family to get rid of the cough. Then either divide the juice and prepare one serving with and one without alcohol, or the Just leave out alcohol completely.
