The metropolis on the south coast of China wants to attract visitors with 500,000 free flight tickets. The tickets are from Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines.
Hong Kong plans to give away 500,000 airline tickets to boost tourism. The measure is said to be part of a campaign called “Hello Hong Kong” and entitled “World of Winners”. According to the Hong Kong Airport Authority, the tickets will come from Cathay Pacific Airways, its low-cost airline HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines.
The free tickets are to be allocated gradually from the beginning of March in different regions and via different channels, such as a lottery system and two-for-one purchases.
Tickets also to residents
The airport authority bought the tickets back in 2020 as part of a $2 billion Hong Kong airline industry bailout.
The issue of the tickets could now put the airlines under pressure. The city will also distribute 80,000 airline tickets to Hong Kong residents and another 80,000 to residents of the Greater Bay Area in the summer, according to Bloomberg news agency.
