Honor unveiled this Monday, January 10, 2022 at an online event its first smartphone
folding, the Honor Magic V, as well as the new version of its intelligent OS, Magic UI 6.0. The smartphone will be available soon in China, but is not announced for Europe.

According to studies carried out by the Chinese manufacturer, the external screen of folding smartphones remains very important for users who use it mainly for communication: messaging, calls, etc. Conversely, the indoor screen would be more used for work and applications where a large display is preferable. The Honor Magic V was designed to meet these usage preferences.

The external screen offers a diagonal of 6.45 inches and is curved at 44 ° on one side only, under an OLED panel protected by a panel ” curved nano crystal glass Which seems very resistant. With its screen definition of 2560 x 1080 pixels (431 DPI) compatible with HDR10 +, it offers an aspect ratio of 21: 9 and a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz.

Inside, a 7.9-inch screen with a 10: 9 aspect ratio greets the user. Also OLED, it offers a screen definition of 2272 x 1984 pixels (381 DPI) compatible with HDR10 +, but limits its refresh rate to 90 Hz. It is protected by a film supposed to offer good resistance to dust, scratches and other fingerprints. The teardrop-shaped hinge is designed to support 200,000 openings and closings of the folding smartphone.

And it supports multi-window function to enjoy multiple kinds of content at the same time on its wide screen. The user can also arrange them according to his preferences.

The thinnest folding smartphone on the market

The set measures 160.4 x 72.7 x 14.3mm when closed, making the Honor Magic V the thinnest folding smartphone on the market. It should nevertheless be noted that the photo island, protected by a curved glass panel, protrudes quite strongly from the back of the device.

Open, the width of the Honor Magic V passes to 141.1mm for a thickness of 6.7mm. The chassis is made of high strength titanium alloy, zirconium liquid metals and high strength carbon fibers which reduce the density of the device.

It should be noted that it is equipped with a double battery in order to distribute the weight on both sides of the device so that it is not heavier on one side than on the other when it is deployed. For the available colors, three colors are available: Black, Space Silver and Burnt Orange.

An attractive technical sheet

The Honor Magic V is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, engraved in 4 nm, coupled to 12 GB of RAM, with the latest Adreno GPU which offers a 30% increase in performance compared to the previous generation.

The Honor Magic V is available in two versions: 256 GB or 512 GB of internal storage space. For the dual battery, it is a capacity of 4,750 mAh which is proposed, compatible with the fast charge of 66 W, allowing a recharge to 50% in just 15 minutes.

Everything is equipped with an intelligent cooling system incorporating the latest third generation graphene and an intelligent thermal management system. According to Honor, after 30 minutes of play, the temperature of the smartphone reaches 39.2 ° C against 41.2 ° C for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3.

A flagship boosted by Magic UI 6.0

The presentation was quite succinct regarding photography, except that the smartphone has five sensors, all heavily doped with AI. At the rear, three 50 Mpx sensors (wide-angle f / 1.9, ultra-wide-angle f / 2.2 and monochrome f / 2.0) form the photo island. The internal screen and the external screen are both equipped with the same selfie sensor of 42 Mpx (f / 2.4).

The imaging system is obviously powered by artificial intelligence, which is at the heart of the flagship. Indeed, the smartphone can act as a personal assistant by intelligently learning the habits and behavior of the user in order to provide him with personalized recommendations at any time.

Over time, the AI Magic Live is refined to improve and become a kind of personalized OS for the user, and adapts its notifications and recommendations to the times of the day: work time and rest time.

The Honor Magic V will be available soon in China, but has not been announced outside its borders. The 256 GB model of storage space will be sold for 9,999 Yuan (approximately 1,400 euros) while the 512 GB version will cost 10,999 Yuan (a little over 1,500 euros).
