This new French manufacturer has just unveiled its first vehicle at the Mondial de l’Auto, which takes place in Paris until Sunday 23 October.

The Hopium brand is moving from the concept car to the concrete, by unveiling the characteristics of Machina, its first high-end vehicle running on hydrogen.

An ultra-modern futuristic sedan for a very clean look

The Hopium Machina will therefore be a fairly long sports sedan of almost five meters, with a sleek and futuristic design, especially for the headlights at the front and at the rear. On the rear bumper, there are holes that will be used to cool the hydrogen system and the batteries while driving. The grille is also equipped with these openings, which open and close automatically according to cooling needs.

The interior is also in line with the exterior design. Hopium praises the premium materials used, and the great sobriety of the whole. The vehicle controls will be haptic, without the use of the usual touch screens.

The vehicle has neither door handles nor exterior mirrors, replaced by cameras whose video feedback will be visible from the passenger compartment. A transparent roof will also be on the program. The vehicle weighs just under two tons.

The first models available in 2025 and manufactured in Normandy

Regarding its performance, Hopium Machina will be able to reach a top speed of 230 km/h, with an engine of around 500 horsepower and a 0 to 100 km/h in less than five seconds.

Autonomy is announced at 1,000 km. The hydrogen battery system can be filled in just three minutes, as the brand indicates on its website.

Hopium announced at the same time the opening of its first production site in Normandy, and more precisely in Douains, a village located near the town of Vernon. The choice of this location is no coincidence, the Normandy region being active in the development of the hydrogen sector, in particular through the Ariane Group test site located in Vernon. The site should be completed by 2024 for an inauguration in early 2025.

The brand should thus create 1,500 jobs and aims to produce 25,000 vehicles per year from the opening. The order book is already open if you want to be one of the first to drive this brand new vehicle, the final price of which has not yet been communicated.
