Western and Kevin Costner fans will no doubt be intrigued by the first trailer for Horizon: An American Saga. This is a film in two parts, but above all a saga co-written and directed by Costner himself, to be discovered in cinemas this summer.

As the film’s official synopsis explains, Horizon: An American Saga explore “the allure of the Wild West and how it was won — and lost — through the blood, sweat and tears of many people.” These new films by Costner are intended to be “an emotional journey through a country at war with itself, experienced through the prism of families, friends and enemies who will all try to discover what the United States of America really is.”
This Kevin Costner diptych marks the actor’s return behind the camera for the first time since Open Range in 2003. He co-wrote the film with screenwriter Jon Baird and directed a large cast of A-list actors.

We indeed find in the casting Sienna Miller (American Sniper), Sam Worthington (Avatar), Jena Malone (Hunger Games), Abbey Lee (Mad Max: Fury Road), Michael Rooker (Guardians of the Galaxy), Danny Huston (Yellowstone), Luke Wilson (The Tenenbaum Family), Isabelle Fuhrman (Esther), Jeff Fahey (Lost), Will Patton (Silo), Tatanka Means (Killers of the Flower Moon), Giovanni Ribisi (Sneaky Pete) or Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things).

A long-term project
As Costner explained to our colleagues at Varietyit has been around thirty years since the idea ofHorizon running through his head. But putting together this saga was not an easy task because the Oscar-winning actor was unable to find a studio to finance it. He therefore ended up mortgaging one of his properties in Santa Barbara to be able to bring this project to life, the budget of which would amount to 100 million dollars.

But Horizon, it’s not just one film. THE Chapter 1announced in American cinemas on June 28, will be followed by a Chapter 2 scheduled to hit theaters on August 16. Concerning France, no official release date has yet been communicated.
Filmed in Utah, these films are the first in this saga that Coster has conceived in four chapters. However, films 3 and 4 have not yet been confirmed and we will surely have to wait to see the performance of the first two parts ofHorizon at the box office before knowing if Costner can realize his vision.
