Horizon Forbidden West: why the Burning Shores extension will not be released on PS4? Guerrilla Games explained

Two years after the release of the PlayStation 5, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to deliver productions in cross gen on PS4, much to the chagrin of some who would like to see the shift to next gen speak out more. The cord will obviously start to be cut in 2023, including for productions already offered on the two platform generations.

It has indeed been announced that Burning Shoresthe ambitious extension ofHorizon Forbidden West which is however well available to him on PS4, would only be released on PS5 on April 19, 2023. Why not also offer this DLCs on the older generation? The director of Guerrilla Games Mathijs de Jonge explained himself on the PlayStation-Blog, by invoking technical and creative ambitions that can only be sublimated on PlayStation 5

In this ambitious extension, Aloy will evolve in the ruins of Los Angeles. The city, fragmented and overgrown, can be explored from top to bottom by swimming or riding a Helionwing. A dreaded machine threat lurks in the shadows and will force Aloy to use all of her skills. Our vision was particularly ambitious, both technically and creatively. So we had to make the difficult decision to focus our efforts on crafting an unforgettable experience exclusively for the PlayStation 5 console.

The PlayStation 4 is therefore (finally) approaching its end of life, penalizing its followers for the benefit of the comfort of PS5 users. Remember that upgrading the game from PS4 to PS5 is free and that it is easily possible to transfer your save game: if you were playing on the previous generation, you can continue your adventure.Horizon Forbidden West (available from €44.99 on Amazon.co.uk) on PlayStation 5 if you ever buy the console next gen.
