The astrological super month of June proudly presents: The heavenly spectacle of the year, the annular solar eclipse on June 10th. On this day, like every four weeks, we have a new moon, that is, the moon hovers between the sun and earth and shows us its shadowy side. The peculiarity of the new moon phase in this month is, however, that the moon passes a so-called “dragon point”, i.e. a point that is approximately on the line connecting the center of the earth and the sun. From our point of view, our Trabant moves in front of the sun in such a way that it darkens it – because it is relatively far from the earth, but only 89 percent. The new moon disk seems too small to us to completely cover the sun. Therefore, a radiant sun ring forms around the dark disc of the moon and we speak of an annular solar eclipse. Both the sun and the moon are in the zodiac sign of Gemini for this eclipse.
Annular solar eclipse on June 10th: peak at noon
Although we can only observe the spectacle from Germany in its partial phase, it still does not pass us without a trace. Starting at 9:12 a.m., the solar eclipse peaks at 11:42 a.m. At this time we in Germany will be able to perceive that the sky is darkening and the sun is losing its radiance. The further north we are, the more we will notice it: In Hamburg the sun darkens by 17.4 percent, in Stuttgart by only 8.6 percent.
