Sensitive souls refrain ! Recently, It: Chapter 2 by Andy Muschietti arrived on Netflix and has been a great success with subscribers. The film is the sequel to the first part released in 2017 and completes the adaptation of Stephen King’s novel around the terrifying clown Pennywise.

Beyond its great success at the box office, It: Chapter 2 holds an interesting record: it is the feature film having used the greatest number of liters of blood for a single and unique scene. The sequence in question is at the end, when Beverly (Jessica Chastain) drowns in liters of blood coming out of the toilet.

Warner Bros. Pictures

To create this moment of terror, 17,032 liters of blood were used – which corresponds to 4,5000 US gallons. For comparison, 15,140 liters were used for the entirety of Game of Thrones season eight. In Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, the famous elevator scene required nearly 11,082 liters.

Director Andy Muschietti wanted to fill the set only halfway, but it was Jessica Chastain who insisted on adding more blood. “Let’s do Carrie, but on steroids“, launched the actress in reference to another great classic of Stephen King.
