In a flood in Mexico, at least 16 patients were killed in a flooded hospital. In the clinic in the central Mexican city of Tula, corona patients could not be supplied with oxygen due to a power outage as a result of the flood, said the head of the State Institute for Social Security (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, in a video that the government posted on Tuesday published on Twitter.
Three rivers burst their banks on Monday evening (local time) after heavy rain. Floods also occurred in the city of Ecatepec, a few kilometers from Mexico’s capital.
Newborns evacuated in incubators
According to Robledo, 56 patients were treated at the hospital in Tula, in the state of Hidalgo, most of them for Covid-19 diseases. The survivors would be brought to safety. According to media reports, newborns also had to be evacuated in incubators.
Hundreds of people had to seek shelter in emergency shelters at dawn. The Mexican government declared a state of emergency in 27 communities in Hidalgo and sent soldiers to aid the affected areas. (SDA / bra)
