Hospital: the Minister of Health wants to “cap the rates of the interim”

François Braun points out the “interim drift“. The tariffs of interim doctors for 24 hours of call can go up “up to 5000 euros“, he laments.

The responsibility of the interim again pointed out in the crisis at the hospital. In an interview at Parisian Monday, the new Minister of Health François Braun evokes a “interim driftand announces that it wants to take matters into its own hands to fight against this phenomenon. “What is currently happening in hospitals is totally indecent“says the emergency doctor. According to him, the tariffs of interim doctors for 24 hours of call can go up “up to 5000 euros“.

Faced with this situation, compared by François Braun to “morphine“, the former head of emergencies at the Metz hospital announces that he wants to”carry out a reflection to cap the rates of the interim“. In theory, however, the remuneration of interim doctors is already capped. A law was indeed passed in April 2021, limiting 1170.04 euros gross, or approximately 950 euros net, for 24 hours of care. But it struggles to be respected because of the glaring lack of hospital staff.

“Reduce the administrative burden”

On the trail of a reintegration of non-vaccinated caregivers, precisely to fight against this shortage of personnel, François Braun referred to the opinion of the health authorities. “We have always managed this crisis based on the recommendations of scientists and there is no reason for that to change. The High Authority for Health and the Scientific Council will give us their opinion in the coming days.“, he specified. At the National Assembly last week, the minister was more categorical, stating that this track “not (could) be on the agenda“.

The former president of the influential association Samu-Urgences de France recalled that, faced with the hospital crisis, the government had retained at the beginning of the month all the proposals of the “flash mission” that it itself even conducted. night hours”carried out by medical and non-medical staff, will be better paid this summer“, he pointed out, “while waiting to open a broader reflection on the recognition of hardship“. François Braun also plans to tackle hospital bureaucracy. “It is also necessary to reduce the administrative burden which forces caregivers to spend more time behind their screen than with their patients, it is absurd!he exclaimed.

Brigitte Bourguignon’s successor once again defended the regulation of access to emergencies, one of the key proposals of his mission. “It’s not a degradation of access to care, it’s a better organization“, he argued, saying he wanted”reduce the workload in the emergency department by further regulating its access». At the entrance, we reinforce the number of nurses who welcome and direct the patients according to their needs. Those who do not require urgent care are referred to general practitioners who have unscheduled care slots. Those who make this extra effort will be paid an additional 15 euros each time“, he developed.
