The Solothurn hospitals lack staff. Therefore, only 190 of the 230 beds are in operation, and operations are being postponed.
- The canton’s own Solothurner Spitaler AG (SoH) has too few nursing staff to be able to operate all the beds.
- In the Solothurn Citizens’ Hospital, for example, only 195 of the maximum 230 beds are currently available. In July it was 180.
- According to the SoH, all necessary treatments are still possible. However, operations can be postponed and there may be waiting times.
There is a shortage of staff in gastronomy, schools and industry. There are no female cooks, teachers or engineers. And at the Solothurn hospitals there is a lack of nursing staff. The labor market has dried up, and other hospitals are also looking for staff. SoH spokesman Gian Trionfini says there is no relief in sight in the near future.
According to the spokesman, all SoH locations had problems – i.e. Solothurn, Olten and Dornach. At the largest location, the Bürgerspital in Solothurn, only 195 of the 230 beds are available. Until last week it was only 183 – 50 less than possible. It is said that the trend in available beds has been pointing slightly upwards in recent weeks. However: The maximum of 230 beds has never been operated.
Because there is a lack of staff and therefore the bed capacity cannot be exhausted, operations also have to be postponed. According to Trionfini, however, all necessary treatments can be carried out. The situation is constantly being reassessed. The issue of personnel will occupy the SoH and other hospitals in the medium to long term.
