Hot flushes: they distort anti-Covid temperature controls! : Current Woman Le MAG

Have you ever been exposed to it? Some companies and administrations – and tomorrow certainly the airports to be able to plan trips – have implemented temperature controls at their entrances to protect themselves from the risk of transmission of the Covid-19, using thermal cameras or devices front measurement. One of the main symptoms of the disease is fever. But this systematic taking of temperature can be a problem for women who suffer from hot flashes linked to menopause. Indeed, their organism can then get carried away and display a heat stroke, without any relation to the virus therefore. This is due to the drop in their estrogen level, a hormone that regulates temperature in particular. Women who experience hot flashes during or after menopause (these sometimes last up to seven years!) Know these sensations well: the skin becomes hot and blushes, at the level of the upper body, above chest and face.

This flaw was pointed out by an American gynecologist, Jennifer Gunter, on Twitter. And she is not alone in having doubts about the reliability of this measure. In our country, the High Council for Public Health (HCSP) indicated in its opinion of April 29 that temperature taking is not an effective control. He recommended moreover "not to set up a screening of Covid-19 in the population, by taking of temperature, for a control of access to structures, sectors or means of transport".

To fight against the coronavirus, the HCSP calls instead for vigilance and self-monitoring by everyone. In short, if you are menopausal, you know very well that your temperature can be distorted at certain times of the day. You will also be able to detect an unusual fever and then contact your doctor.
