Hotel chain in Salzburg – founding of works council: employee terminated!

A hotel group fired three employees who were planning to set up an employee representation in Salzburg. Now it’s the turn of the union and the labor and social courts.

A German hotel group with five companies in Austria has had employees and the union “vida” against it since last week. The reason: Three long-time employees of the hotel chain in the city of Salzburg wanted to set up a works council. When the hotel chain got wind of it, they issued notices of termination and a ban on entry. Moritz K. had only recently been promoted to restaurant manager in the posh “Hyperion” in the Andräviertel. For a few days he has been in charge of the apprenticeship training in the service department. Markus S. worked as a receptionist at the “H+” at the train station. He was popular, even employee of the month. Both tell the “Krone” about their efforts to set up a works council for the approximately 60 employees in the two hotels. They don’t want to reveal their real names, their face. Employees want to go back. A press spokeswoman said that at no time had employees been dismissed in connection with the planned establishment of a works council. The trade union and also the lawyer of the dismissed see it differently. It is a classic case of frowned upon reason for dismissal. Moritz and Markus put their heart and soul into their job and want to go back despite the incidents. The Labor and Social Court will decide whether the dismissal will be revoked.
