Hotel in Cuxhaven does not want overweight guests

Feeling good – that's the key word for most when it comes to vacation. Leave your worries behind, switch off, let yourself go. However, the latter in particular does not apply to everyone in a hotel in Cuxhaven, more precisely not to people who weigh more than 130 kilograms.

What sounds like a bad joke is a matter of course for the owner-couple of a beach hotel on the North Sea. Overweight people are not welcome in their establishment. With this statement, the hotel is now making headlines – and not positive ones.

Hotel in Cuxhaven does not want overweight guests

"Our house is characterized by a very individual design. For liability reasons, we would like to point out that the interior is not suitable for people with a body weight of more than 130 kg."

It is this small but fine sales that Radio Bremen initially took as an occasion for reporting. The notice is well placed on the hotel's online booking page. No one overlooks him there. And that is also the intention of the owner, as is clear in her statements to "buten un binnen": "Honestly: I would have to bring sanatorium furniture here. Designer furniture is not an option."

However, the hotel is known for its design interior – and not made for everyone, as the owner of the Beachhotel Sahlenburg makes clear: "If a person over 130 kilos sits on it, they'll sit there with a buttock and the chair won't last long."

In the meantime, the hotel should not only be known for its designer furniture, but for allegations of discrimination. Several media are now even reporting internationally on the degrading kilogram limit. But even that doesn't seem to distract the owners from Cuxhaven from their course. Rather, they still seem to be fueled by this, as current statements towards dpa show: They did not want to discriminate against anyone but wanted to protect them from false expectations. The rooms and their furnishings are simply not made for people over 130 kilograms – and guests should feel comfortable in the hotel.

However, an earlier quote suggests another reason for the kilo limit. Because also against "buten un binnen" the owner rejected the allegations in the following words: "So I find it personally discriminatory that I have to endure such a sight – to be honest. " According to these statements, the sight of all guests is likely to remain rare in the future. Because feeling well is difficult for most people with a constant assessment of their appearance.
