Hours of disruption – Another power outage in the Vienna Prater area

A month and a half after the spectacular power failure during the international football match between Austria and Denmark in the Ernst Happel Stadium, the lights around the Vienna Prater went out again on Saturday evening. As the Wiener Netze announced on their website, there was no electricity in parts of Vienna-Leopoldstadt between 7:39 p.m. and 10:14 p.m.

How many households were affected could not be found out late on Saturday evening. The exact cause was also unclear. According to a report by “heute”, the Ernst Happel Stadium, rides in Vienna’s Prater and 400 households were again affected, at least in the case of the Prater, the cause was a cable defect. According to the report, some people were briefly trapped in the rides by the emergency power generators but everyone would have had solid ground under their feet again after 15 minutes at the latest. Neither the fire brigade nor the ambulance should have moved in. Two faults occurred and were fixed. At the request of the APA, the Vienna fire brigade had no information about operations in connection with the power failure. There were only two operations in the district where a connection to the power outage was unclear. The Wiener Netze reported on their website of two disruptions in Vienna-Leopoldstadt, which began at 7:39 p.m. The first was fixed at 9:32 p.m., the second at 10:14 p.m. A “technical defect” was given as the cause. The power failure on June 6 was caused by a defective connector of a power cable. At that time, around 1,500 households were affected, 90 percent of which were reconnected to the grid within an hour. For parts at the green Prater and at the Lusthaus it was not until the following morning that time again.
