House completely filled with smoke – Forgot about candles: Advent wreath caused a fire

Bad surprise when a couple came home on Christmas Eve in Kremsmünster (Upper Austria): Because they had forgotten to put out the candles on the Advent wreath, it caught fire. The dining table also burned through and three fire departments had to be called out.

The couple left their single-family home in Kremsmünster around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. As it turned out later: without extinguishing the candles on the Advent wreath at the dining table. There was probably a portion of Christmas happiness that no longer happened. It wasn’t until five hours later that the two residents returned home – and immediately alerted the fire department because they noticed heavy smoke. One-hour operation The Advent wreath had caught fire and the dining table underneath had also burned through. However, the fire did not spread beyond that. The fire department pressurized the house and carried out extinguishing work. The Florianis also checked the burning material for possible embers. After about an hour they were able to complete their operation. Luckily no one was injured. Property damage and the shock on Christmas Eve remain.
