WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The US House of Representatives on Friday approved the $430 billion (422 billion euros) plan aimed in particular at combating climate change and lowering the price of certain drugs.
This “inflation reduction” bill, introduced by the Biden administration, was adopted by 220 votes to 207. The text will now be sent to US President Joe Biden, who should enact it next week.
“Today the American people won. The lobbies lost,” wrote Joe Biden in a message posted on Twitter.
The plan aims in particular to reduce the cost of prescription drugs for the elderly and to combat climate change, in particular by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The adoption of this text is an important victory for US President Joe Biden a few months “midterms”, which will determine the control of the House of Representatives and the Senate for the next two years.
“This is a resounding victory for American families,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said before the vote.
