House of the Dragon: did you notice this change of actors in the finale?

One of the actors of House of the Dragon had an imponderable during the filming of the last episode of season 1. The production had to replace him. Didn’t notice anything? It’s normal, we explain.

A few days after the finale of season 1 of House of the Dragon, unusual information continues to be distilled behind the scenes of the shooting. Imagine that in the finale, there is a change of actor that you most likely missed.

At the end of the season, we got to know the Royal Guard’s twin brothers, Ser Arryk Cargyll and Ser Erryk Cargyll, played by Luke and Elliott Tittensor respectively. In the penultimate episode, the two brothers helped, in some way, apprehend Prince Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and seat him on the Iron Throne.

In the end, the duo splits when they have to pledge allegiance. Ser Arryk sides with Aegon and the Greens, when Ser Erryk chooses Rhaenyra and the Blacks. During an interview for Entertainment Weekly’s West of Westeros podcast, Greg Yaitanes, who is directing the final episode, reveals that during filming, production hit a snag when Elliott contracted COVID.

The production therefore had to find a replacement, and the answer came – obviously – from his twin brother. “There’s this scene, this big scene where Corlys (Steve Toussaint) comes down and they put the markers on the table and the messenger comes“, Yaitanes says in the podcast.”It was a two day shoot and one of them got COVID“, he adds. “Elliott had COVID, so we traded him with his brother.

It must have been a great relief to have such a perfectly matching replacement to fix this unexpected problem. What the director admits saying “that would have killed us” if Luke had not been able to replace his brother. Yaitanes adds: “We were about to do all the takingEmma and he was standing right next to her.“Luke Tittensor turned out to be the perfect man to slip into a slightly different role and he obviously pulled through without any problems.

When the series returns, we will definitely see the chess pieces move as the Dance of the Dragons will be at the heart of the new season. However, the fight for the Iron Throne will divide the Targaryen family, and will also oppose the twins. When the two brothers find themselves on the battlefield, it will certainly be for a tragic and emotionally charged scene!

The first season of House of the Dragon is currently on OCS.
