The wait for season two is barely in the home stretch and there is more great news for “House of the Dragon” fans.

All fans of the elaborate fantasy series “House of the Dragon” are still longing for the upcoming start of season two, which will be broadcast in Germany on the night of 16 to 17 June on Sky/Wow. Immediately before this date, the producing US broadcaster HBO has now made his official Instagram account with a few words for cheers: “The dance of the dragons continues. ‘House of the Dragon’ has been renewed for a third season.”

Those responsible for this decision are once again demonstrating their full confidence in the continued success of the “Game of Thrones” spin-off, the first season of which premiered in August 2022 and convinced critics and fans of the original series alike.

The early reward for the “dragon-sized effort”

The industry website “Variety” quotes Francesca Orsi, HBO’s head of programming for drama series, as saying: “We are in awe of the dragon-sized effort the entire team has put into producing a spectacular second season, the scope and scale of which can only be surpassed by their heart. We couldn’t be more thrilled to continue the story of House Targaryen and to see this team shine again in season three.”

The second season of “House of the Dragon” will only consist of eight episodes this time, two episodes less than the premiere season. At the end of the season, a bitter civil war broke out between the supporters of the noble House of Targaryen. This became unavoidable when one of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s (Emma D’Arcy, 31) sons was killed and Prince Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell, 27) was responsible – the son of her opponent Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke, 30).
