The family trees in “House of the Dragon” are tangled and complicated. But one thing is very clear: Author George RR Martin wrote in his book “Fire and Blood” that Alicent Hohenturm and King Viserys I have a total of three sons and one daughter. So far we’ve met Aegon, Aemond, and Helaena Targaryen. But where is Daeron Targaryen?
Martin gives an answer to the riddle himself in his blog. There just hasn’t been time to mention Daeron in the series yet. The boy serves as cupbearer and squire to Lord Ormund Hightower in Oldtown. As the third son, he was way down in the line of succession, since the crown was supposed to go to Rhaenyra, so he was sent to Oldtown.
In the course of the Dance of the Dragons, Daeron Targaryen will play another important role, he will ride the dragon lady Tessarion and fight alongside his brothers. So we can be sure that Daeron will appear as the series progresses.
But first episode 9 of “House of the Dragon” awaits us. In it we learn what will happen after the death of King Viserys. Can Rhaenyra Targaryen return to King’s Landing in time to claim the throne?
