In House of the Dragon, Matt Smith plays the impetuous Daemon Targaryen. Game of Thrones fans have often had fun comparing House of the Dragon characters to Game of the Thrones characters looking for similarities. For Daemon, some have found commonalities between his character and that of Tyrion Lannister. He’s the character who humorously deconstructs the things everyone around him is invested in.
Additionally, Daemon is a particularly unique character in the House of the Dragon universe. If he is undoubtedly the protagonist of the series, he is also the antagonist. And it’s not always obvious where it sits on the spectrum of good and evil. If many find him sympathetic, Daemon is not a hero. He’s done a lot of terrible things over the course of the series.
Recently, Matt Smith appeared at Heroes Comic Con Brussels 2022. There, the 39-year-old actor was asked if Daemon was around during the Game of Thrones era, what his relationship with Jon Snow would have been like, especially after he killed Daenerys Targaryen in the last season of Game of Thrones? To this, Matt Smith has answered :
I don’t think Jon Snow would survive very long.
An answer that could just as well have been uttered by Daemon himself. But Matt Smith seems to forget that Jon Snow is one of his descendants since he is a Targaryen. At the same time, we learned that Daemon is not one to choke on morality…
