In the fifth episode of “House of the Dragon,” Solly McLeod makes his brief but powerful appearance as Ser Gottfrid Lonmund. But we also get to know Laenor Velaryon’s (Theo Nate) lover by another name: the Knight of Kisses. This title does not come from his passionate affection for Laenor, but can be traced back simply to the coat of arms of his house.
House Lonmund is one of the noblest houses in the Stormlands, of which only two are known in George RR Martin’s books. “The Knight of Kisses” Ser Gottfrid Lonmund and Ser Richard Lonmund “The Knight of Skulls and Kisses”. Richard was the squire of Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys’ eldest brother and crown prince of the mad king Aerys II Targaryen.
The banner of House Lonmund is divided into six and features yellow skulls on a black ground and red lips on a yellow ground.
How does Laenor honor his late lover?
After the brutal murder of Gottfrid at the hands of Kriston Kraut (Fabien Frankel), a world collapses for Laenor Velaryon. He mourns the death of his lover for a long time. After the birth of his first child with Rhaenyra Targaryen, he plans to name his son Gottfrid.
However, his father Corlys Velaryon opposes this and so the firstborn is named Jacaerys Targaryen. Only the third son of Laenor and his wife was given the name Gottfrid.
With the sixth episode, “House of the Dragon” makes another big jump in time and shows Laenor and Rhaenyra’s life together. We will find out on September 26, 2022 whether Gottfrid was already born there. The HBO series can be viewed on the Sky Atlantic channel or the streaming provider Wow.
