“House of the Dragon” will return with a second season in the summer of 2024, but according to George RR Martin, a total of four seasons are planned. So does the series run until 2028?
“House of the Dragon” fans will have to be content with a trailer for season 2 until the new episodes start on HBO and Sky in summer 2024. George RR Martin had better luck. The creator of “Game of Thrones” once again interrupted his work on “The Winds of Winter” and traveled to London.
There he not only met with his British publishers, but also visited the set of “House of the Dragon,” which he described as “HUGE, breathtaking and so damn real that I felt like I was walking through a time portal into medieval Westeros to have gone” described in his blog.
Final in 2028?
But that’s not all: Martin was also allowed to watch rough versions of the first two episodes of “House of the Dragon” Season 2. Here too, Martin’s conclusion was very positive.
Of course, I’m hardly objective when talking about something based on my own work, but I have to say that I thought both episodes were simply great (and they’re not even finished yet). Dark, mind you. Very dark. They might make you cry (I didn’t cry myself, but one of my friends did). Powerful, emotional, heartbreaking, heartbreaking. Just the kind of things I like.

But Martin’s trip to London wasn’t just for his private pleasure. Together with “House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal and the series’ writers, Martin already spoke about the third and fourth seasons of “House of the Dragon”. This is not the first time that there has been talk of further seasons and although HBO has not yet confirmed anything in this regard, the work on seasons 3 and 4 clearly points to another return to Westeros.
Assuming that “House of the Dragon” will continue to be released every 2 years due to the extensive filming, we should expect “House of the Dragon” season 4 around 2028. Until then, of course, HotD won’t be the only “Game of Thrones” spin-off.
