Several “Game of Thrones” spin-offs are in development, most notably “House of the Dragon”. The series should be “spectacular”.

The “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” is apparently intended to be a visual experience for fans. Casey Bloys, Chief Content Officer at US broadcaster HBO and streaming service HBO Max, seems to be pretty sure of that – even if he doesn’t want to reveal the exact details yet. What he has already seen looks “spectacular”, explains Bloys in an interview with the US trade journal “Variety”. The cast so far also looks good.

The main cast that has already been confirmed includes Emma D’Arcy (28), Matt Smith (38), Steve Toussaint (56), Rhys Ifans (53), Olivia Cooke (27) and Paddy Considine (47). David Benioff (50) and DB Weiss (50), who were showrunners on “Game of Thrones”, have absolutely nothing to do with the project, which takes place 300 years before the events of the original series, as Bloys confirms. The two currently worked for Netflix.

No other series is shot

Bloys also explains that a series from the “Game of Thrones” universe is currently only being shot for this one. The author responsible for the templates, George RR Martin (72), supervises the development of at least six others, according to the report.

In the past few months there have been reports of series with titles like “9 Voyages”, “Tales of Dunk and Egg”, “10,000 Ships”, “Flea Bottom” and an as yet untitled, animated “Game of Thrones” series. “All of the others are at different stages of development,” explains Bloys. “People might think we’re doing ten shows right now. There’s one that will air in 2022.” We still have to see how well the scripts for the other series will develop.
