Household appliances: a record year thanks to confinement


It sold 73.9 million devices in 2021. Concerned about their comfort at home, the French spent 9.9 billion euros.

A coffee machine, a washing machine or why not a dehumidifier. The French have never bought as many household appliances as in 2021. They spent a record amount of 9.9 billion euros (+ 7.6% in one year), to afford 73.9 million appliances, according to GfK figures.

Despite supply disruptions due to semiconductor shortages, freight issues and temporary production line shutdowns, the industry has met demand.”

Impact of teleworking

At the top of the strongest growth, the bean-to-cup coffee machine was a hit. In five years, this segment has multiplied by five. Dehumidifiers have also found their audience: 60,000 units have been sold (+ 38.5% in one year).
