How a police officer conquered the German art scene

The artist miNo has made a name for himself in the tape art scene. Now he also wants to get involved in the world of NFT. We talked to miNo about his career, art and the digital age.

“You may know that: the feeling of being with art. You stand in front of a gallery and look inside. Your interest has been piqued, but you don’t dare to go into it. But Why Not? You get the feeling that art galleries were not made for the average person. Not so with my art, “

the image video of the German artist begins miNo, which BTC-ECHO exclusively has in advance.

Such an average person could also be miNo, whose real name is Michael Nolte and who is a police officer by profession. If it weren’t for the art thing.

But miNo received his artistic calling rather late. Not until his late 40s did Nolte devote himself to his passion, which has always slumbered in him. After a bicycle accident, the officer has a lot of time, starts painting and in the end he even starts studying art at the icon smithy in Regensburg. He starts with graffiti art and pop art, which is based on greats like Jean-Michel Basquiat.

In my family I have been artistically shaped from the beginning. As far back as I can remember, my father brought me closer to art. In adulthood, however, I initially concentrated on my job and lost sight of art. That changed with my racing bike accident,

says Nolte in an interview with BTC-ECHO.

Actually, one could think that inspectors would rather be hostile to art from the spray can. It’s different with Nolte.

miNo reinvents tape art

The artist, who grew up in the Ruhr area, is best known for a style called tape art. You guessed it, duct tape is involved here. The creative application of differently colored tape creates works of art that are similar in nature to graffiti – but are completely different.

When I had a lot of time after my accident, I started doing tape art. My first work went viral on social media. Since then I’ve really enjoyed art again.

So the artist in the interview.

In 2020 miNo accomplished the feat, his work Hannah Arendt to place in an art competition of the German Historical Museum. Nolte won the competition by return of post and thus achieved the breakthrough in the German art scene.

“Hannah Arendt” by miNo.

But the analog world is not enough for miNo. Nolte is drawn into the digital profession and thus also in the direction of NFT. “I am always trying to break new ground. I’m also moving in the digital sector, ”miNo announces its digital maiden voyage.

We’ll tell you exactly what the artist is up to in the second part – starting tomorrow morning on BTC-ECHO.
