Google is testing a new feature to automatically organize its Chrome tabs into groups using AI.
Staying organized on Chrome isn’t always easy. As we click on more links, we can quickly find ourselves with dozens of open tabs that can make us lose track of our research.
Google introduced a feature more than two years ago to manually group tabs into groups. Recently it is an option “ Organize tabs» which appeared in the previews of the browser. The latter still seems to be under development and, if its latest versions are to be believed, it would work thanks to AI.

As always, the information comes to us from a well-known nosy expert, Leopeva64 on (Twitter). The latter followed the developments of the functionality “Organize tabs» since it appeared in the Canary versions of Chromium.
In Leopeva64’s demonstration, the option is present both in the context menu of a tab (right click), but also in the global Chrome menu. If it grouped tabs automatically until now, it would seem that the user would have more control over the final result.

Once the option is selected, a menu is now displayed to suggest to the user a grouping of tabs, based on the content and name of the web pages, as well as a name to affix to this group.
Obviously, this entire process is based on Google’s AI (undoubtedly Bard) if this latest iteration is to be believed. The option loading animation is similar to that already present in the search results offered by Google Bard, and the option must be activated in a hidden menu at the addresschrome://settings/ai.
As Android Police mentions, it seems that Google has changed its approach to this feature, which was probably not originally intended to exploit AI. But Google’s recent progress in this area has undoubtedly made it change course.
We still don’t know when this new option will arrive, or if it will land on Android, but it could prove very useful!
