In any case, this is what General Motors wants. According to information published by Semafor and confirmed by Reuters on March 10, 2023, the American automobile giant is working on the creation of a personal assistant that would employ GPT-3.
ChatGPT in a car, but what for?
Scott Miller, vice president of General Motors, mentioned the fact that the virtual assistant could communicate information available in the vehicle’s owner’s manual (on an indicator light), display an explanatory video on the wheel change in the event of puncture, schedule an appointment at a repair centre, etc.
“ Customers can expect their next vehicles to be far more capable and with a great modern twist when it comes to emerging technologies “, said Friday, March 10 to Reuters, a spokesperson for GM. With the use of such technology, the entire automotive sector would be hit by a possible race to improve the virtual assistant. And it would also be a huge blow to Elon Musk and the models of Tesla.
AI to revive GM?
For now, there is no more information on the AI model used or the name of this assistant, but General Motors, which has been working with Microsoft on the development of autonomous vehicles for more than two years, could retain its new advanced driver assistance technology from the group: the Ultra Cruise.
The advanced security technology, unveiled on March 7, could be maintained and improved through the use of ChatGPT in the years to come. But at present, no date of integration in the vehicles of the GM group (Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC…) has been planned by the American manufacturer.
