How cyber defense is reshaping global geopolitics

Listen to our full podcast with Guy-Philippe Goldstein:

Cyberattacks can not only wipe out businesses, they can also play a key role in modern military conflicts. The whole world has also become aware of this this year with the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, some observers even going so far as to mention the term cyberwar.

However, the major world powers did not wait for the Ukrainian conflict to seize the opportunities offered by cyberspace and develop cyberdefense and cyberattack strategies to weaken a State or anticipate possible large-scale offensives. . In recent years, Russia, China and the United States have thus been particularly active in cyberspace, ushering the world into a new era that could be likened to a digital cold war.

In recent years, and even more so in 2022, tensions have become particularly high between Beijing and Washington. Faced with US sanctions aimed at isolating China, the latter is seeking digital autonomy under the leadership of Xi Jinping. The United Kingdom has also recently warned against the technological power of China, which could represent “a huge threat to us all”.

According to Guy-Philippe Goldstein, specialist in cyber defense issues, “Chinese calculation will fail”. We met him at the Cybersecurity Conference to discuss the impact of cyber defense on international geopolitics. He is the first guest of CyberAlertthe podcast of Digital which analyzes the cybersecurity sector from every angle.
