To achieve the agreement of November 22, which established a ceasefire and allowed an exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Hamas, Qatar established itself as a central intermediary. And this is not new: in the same way, Doha hosted negotiations between the United States and the Taliban for the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, in February 2020.

This position reflects the efforts made by the emirate to occupy an increasingly important place in international diplomacy. And the oil monarchy achieves this thanks to “big gap” diplomacy, made possible here by the links it maintains on the one hand with the Western world, and on the other hand with the Islamist movement of Hamas.
