One week before its release, the new VR headset from PlayStation is literally disassembled on video, for the pleasure of technophiles.

The Japanese manufacturer has indeed split two exciting videos presenting the capabilities of the PS VR2 and its controllers as well as the parts inside to make it all work.

Follow the gaze of PS VR2

Virtually followed closely pending its February 22 release, the new PS5-exclusive VR headset was laid bare by Sony in two videos. in the wings “. The first, of course, focuses on the headset itself, which you can check out below.

We see Takamasa Araki, chief designer of the PS VR2 (and also of its big brother) disassembling the beast with a masterful hand. It allows us to see what’s inside the helmet when adjusting the lenses and much more of that kind.

The video also shows us how a key element of the PS VR2 works: eye movement tracking. The magic in this case is operated thanks to an infrared LED around each lens as well as an infrared camera which captures the light of the LEDs to work in concert.

The PS VR2 controllers in hand

The second video focuses on Sense controllers and is this time presented by Takeshi Igarashi, also designer of the famous DualSense controller.

The influence of the PS5 controller is felt in those of the PS VR2. There are indeed the now well-known adaptive triggers. But the most interesting element of these controllers is of course on the side of the tracking of the movement of the controllers.

This is ensured by a circle of 14 infrared LEDs and 3 other LEDs. The set is used by the headset’s tracking camera to detect the position and orientation of the hands, no matter which direction the controllers are facing.

Of course, the two designers who disassemble the PS VR2 to its last atom do not recommend that such an operation be repeated at home. Finally, if however, you want to treat yourself to this new VR headset expected on February 22 at the fairly prohibitive price of 599.99 euros… and with compulsory wire.
