How does the new iPhone 15 Pro Action button work?

The new iPhone 15 and 15 Pro were made official on the evening of September 12 by Apple. Let’s find out without further ado what the Action button on high-end models will be used for.

The evening of September 12 was particularly eventful for fans of new technologies. And you probably know something about it if you were with us to follow the Apple keynote!

iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max: Apple confirms the presence of an Action button

After months of waiting, the firm led by Tim Cook has finally made its new iPhones official: the iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. This keynote, eagerly awaited by the Apple community, was also an opportunity for the American firm to confirm many important elements expected by fans of the brand, including the abandonment of the Lightning port in favor of USB-C, or yet the arrival of a brand new Action button. The latter will also replace the famous ringtone/vibrate switch, present since the release of the first iPhone in 2007 in order to offer more functions.

In reality, this button is not completely new to the Apple ecosystem, since it was introduced for the very first time last year with the arrival of the Apple Watch Ultra. On the other hand, this is indeed the very first time that iPhone users will be able to benefit from it. But in concrete terms, what purpose could it be used for?

Set the iPhone 15 Pro Action button however you want

Only the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will be equipped with this new Action button. Located on the left side of the device, exactly where the switch was, its role will be to configure shortcuts to the features you use the most. For example, if you press and hold the button, you can trigger the following options: Silent mode, Focus, Camera, Flashlight, Dictaphone, Translate, Magnifier, Shortcut and Accessibility. Note that, by default, the Action button will be configured to have the same functions as the button it replaces, i.e. toggle between Silent and Ring modes.

In the event that you would like to reserve this button for a completely different use, know that you will always be able to open the Control Center of your iPhone in order to mute the sound of your device. Let us recall in passing that this button is one of the rare modifications made to the design of the iPhone over a number of years. Finally, the iPhone 15 Pro will be available from 1,229 euros for 128 GB of storage from September 22. Concerning the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which will also benefit from certain particularities, you will have to pay no less than 1,479 euros for the 256 GB variant.
