The operator will take advantage of the feedback from its subscribers to update the internet boxes with the latest wireless standard.

Free recycles and modernizes its old Delta Freeboxes
When it was released at the very end of 2018, the Freebox Delta had skipped Wi-Fi 6, a decision strongly contested by some subscribers. Xavier Niel had nevertheless defended his position, explaining that he wanted to wait for Wi-Fi 6E, a more useful standard according to him for users thanks to a new frequency band available which made it possible to improve Wi-Fi coverage in a home by avoiding interference.
A few weeks ago, Free started shipping a new version of the Freebox Delta, compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, but only for new Freebox subscribers.
However, the operator will not only design new models, but also recycle old Freebox Delta Server to modernize its box fleet.
As explained Freebox Universe, Iliad systematically refurbishes the boxes returned by subscribers who have terminated their contract in order to repair them, but also to modernize them by integrating a Wi-Fi 6E module. Faulty Freeboxes are also processed and used components are recycled.
Former subscribers wishing to migrate to a new Freebox Delta Wi-Fi 6E will have to wait a few more months to switch to this new box. Free seems to be having supply difficulties and hopes for an improvement by the end of the year.
