Google announces the deployment of a new feature called “ adaptive audio ” In Google Meet. It should make videoconferencing more harmonious when several computers are in the same room.
Popularized during the pandemic, videoconferencing is now popular with many companies practicing hybrid work. However, some organizations do not necessarily have the appropriate equipment or specific rooms for quality meetings. It was to provide them with a solution that Google presented its new adaptive audio function last month.
Quality videoconferencing even in rooms that are not suitable
It automatically detects multiple laptops in the same room, then merges their speakers and microphones. Objective: to reduce echoes and audio feedback. Each participant can thus be heard clearly, without having to crowd around a single device.
“ This is a great advantage for organizations that do not have enough video conferencing rooms or do not have the resources to equip a dedicated conference room “, assures the Mountain View firm in a blog post.
Adaptive audio should allow businesses to hold video conferences in non-standard meeting spaces such as lounges or cafes. Note that the functionality will be activated by default on the platform, and can be removed from the settings. Since April, Google has also made it possible to start a video conference on one device and end it on another.
A feature reserved for Gemini customers
Small downside, adaptive audio will not be available for all Google Meet users, but only for those who have subscribed to the company’s AI offers. The functionality will be deployed in the coming weeks for “ Google Workspace customers with Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Business, Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, and the AI Meetings and Messaging add-on “.
Many other features are expected to come to Google Workspace soon. During the Google I/O conference, Google, for example, announced the addition of the new Gemini 1.5 Pro version to the right sidebar of the Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive and Gmail applications. The Google Chip functionality should allow users to request AI to obtain more information on elements from this software such as videoconferencing or emails.
