Bad news for “How I Met Your Father” fans! The “How I Met Your Mother” spin-off series was canceled without answering the all-important question posed by the spin-off.
No season 3 for How I Met Your Father! The ax has fallen for the cult spin-off series How I Met Your Mother. variety we learn that Hulu has canceled the spin-off created by Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (former showrunners of This Is Us), in addition to having canceled this hilarious historical series.
Available on Disney+ in France, How I Met Your Father took up the mechanics of the original series by following the tribulations of a group of friends in New York between their romantic, professional and family setbacks.
The spin-off series was told from a female point of view, that of Sophie, played by Hilary Duff, known in particular for her musical career, her role as Lizzie Maguire and her participation in Gossip Girl. Her older version was camped by the iconic Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City), who explained to her child how she had met his father.
The rest of the cast included Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars, Private Practice, GLOW), Francia Raisa (The Secret Life of the Ordinary Teenager, Grown-ish), Suraj Sharma (Homeland), Tom Ainsley (Versailles, The Royals) and Tien Tran (Space Force).
Despite the appearance of former How I Met Your Mother stars as guest – like Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky), Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson), Kyle MacLachlan (The Captain), Alexis Denisof (Sandy Rivers), Laura Bell Bundy (Becky) and Joe Nieves (bartender Carl) – How I Met Your Father didn’t find a strong enough following. The series is also rated 2.4 out of 5 by AlloCiné viewers.
An essential unanswered question!
Hulu announced the cancellation of the series a month after the end of the broadcast of season 2. How I Met Your Father therefore ends abruptly without a definitive conclusion and above all without having answered the main question which makes all the salt and the mystery of the show: who is the father of Sophie’s child?
If we leave Sophie (Hilary Duff) in a relationship with Jesse (Chris Lowell) at the end of season 2, fans have developed a completely different theory! For some, there is no doubt that the father of Sophie’s child is none other than Sid (Suraj Sharma), Jesse’s best friend.

Several elements support this hypothesis: Sid is about to separate from his wife Hannah (Ashley Reyes), whose long-distance relationship is faltering; Sid loves Valentine’s Day, which is a character trait of the father, and finally we do not see the face of Sophie’s son, unlike Ted’s children who we saw in How I Met Your Mother.
Sid is of Indian origin so if he and Sophie had a child, he would necessarily be mixed race. And in order not to give the answer from the outset, the showrunners may have deliberately not shown the face of the son.
Unfortunately, we will not know if this assumption was true since How I Met Your Father was canceled. Fans can hope that the showrunners will give the answer despite the shutdown of the How I Met Your Mother spin-off series.
