The “How I Met Your Mother” spin-off is finally taking shape: Hilary Duff will appear in the new series “How I Met Your Father”.
The project was on hold for a long time, but now it should finally become a reality. Streaming service Hulu is in the middle of planning the “How I Met Your Mother” spin-off. Hilary Duff (33, “Lizzie McGuire”) will take on the lead role in the series offshoot called “How I Met Your Father”. On Instagram the actress already spoke up. She is really looking forward to her new series family and to getting to know her role Sophie better.
Showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (“This Is US”) are responsible for the series. In “How I Met Your Father” Sophie tells her son the story of how she met his father. The retelling “catapults us back to the year 2021, when Sophie and her close group of friends are just discovering who they are, what they want in life, and how to fall in love in this age of dating apps and limitless possibilities,” it says according to “TVLine” in a message. Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, creators of the original series (2005-2014), are involved as executive producers on the project. To what extent the offshoot will establish a connection to the original is not yet known.
It is not the first attempt to get a successor to the successful series on the way. In 2014, CBS had commissioned a “HIMYM” sequel called “How I Met Your Dad”. A pilot episode with actress Greta Gerwig (37, “Maggie’s Plan”) was shot but never broadcast. After that, Aptaker and Berger dedicated themselves to the series project, but had to put it on the back burner due to their commitment to the hit series “This Is Us”.
