While ChatGPT invites itself everywhere thanks to the plug-in support implemented by OpenAI, Microsoft is preparing to do the same with Bing Chat. What democratize his conversational agent everywhere, even in the services he does not have.
Applications and services using ChatGPT are multiplying: a few days ago we told you about software for Windows that makes ChatGPT work and that avoids going through the web version. This is all thanks to the plugin support that OpenAI introduced last month. But Microsoft could join the game with its own support for Bing Chat.
Microsoft wants Bing Chat to be used everywhere
The journalist from The Verge Tom Warren reports that Microsoft is about to launch plug-in support for its “new Bing“. To advance this, it is based on a tweet from Mikhail Parakhin, head of advertising and web services at Microsoft. The latter was responding to a question from a user who asked if it would be possible to have third-party systems as is the case for ChatGPT. Mikhail Parakhin simply replied:Stay tuned“.
This would allow apps to use Bing Chat for their services. We can imagine software for Windows as mentioned above, or web extensions for the sites we use every day at work or at home: taking notes, answering emails, posting on social networks, etc. As Tom Warren recalls,OpenAI’s plugins for ChatGPT have greatly expanded the chatbot’s abilities to tap into more sources of information and navigate the web.»
Why Bing Chat might become more popular than ChatGPT
Microsoft would just like to do the same to make its chatbot in Bing more attractive. Especially since the firm has arguments to spare for its AI: Bing Chat actually uses GPT-4, the latest version of the language model developed by OpenAI. If GPT-4 is also available on ChatGPT, it is reserved for ChatGPT Plus subscribers.
In addition to that, Bing can now generate images: one can imagine that plug-ins developed using Microsoft’s tool could also benefit from this feature. In its arsenal, Microsoft also has the “internet connection» : Bing is able to extract recent sources and cite them, which ChatGPT cannot do (at least natively).
But there are still significant hurdles for Microsoft and Bing to overcome. First of all, ChatGPT is more popular and present for longer, it is him that we quote first when we talk about conversational agent based on artificial intelligence. In addition, its performance is better on certain points: it allows you to make sessions beyond 25 requests and has a discussion system.
