This Tuesday, May 25, 2021, the Vesoul Assize Court ruled on the damages sought by Alexia’s family from Jonathann Daval, sentenced to 25 years of criminal imprisonment.
The parents of Alexia, murdered on the night of October 27 to 28, 2017 by her companion Jonathann Daval, demanded more than 800,000 euros in damages from the courts. But the Assize Court of Haute-Saône on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 condemned the murderer, who has been serving 25 years in prison since November 2020, to pay around 165,000 euros to the relatives of the victim, including 5,066.50 euros for costs. Alexia’s funeral, 50,000 euros in loss of affection for each of the parents, or 18,000 euros for Stéphanie Gay, Alexia’s sister.
“Each request must be related to the event from which it arises. In this case, we are not dealing with an isolated drama, but with an accumulation of dramas”, had declared to Parisian Me Jean-Hubert Portejoie, one of Alexia’s parents’ lawyers, at the hearing on February 22, 2021.

On the side of the defense of Jonathann Daval, the amounts are qualified as “largely excessive”. “We could have kept quiet and accepted everything, if the requests had been fair, but this is not the case”, said Randall Schwerdorffer, according to Le Figaro. The victim’s lawyers had justified these amounts: “This large sum takes into account the heinous crime committed by Jonathann Daval, but also his behavior, he who played the grieving husband for three months, then who publicly implicated the parents of Alexia.” In 2017, the man publicly cried during the death of his partner in front of the cameras, just before being taken into custody.
