To believe again Electrekthe main competitor of Tesla and its S Plaid model would indeed be Porsche.

In fact, the German firm is preparing the release of a new version of its electric Taycan with three motors.

Two three-engine versions at Porsche and Tesla

The Tesla Model S Plaid is due to arrive in France shortly, by the end of 2022. And if the wealthiest purses can still afford this high-end sport-oriented model, Tesla could well see the in this segment a new version of the Porsche Taycan. Available on the market since 2019, the Taycan would have 3 engines this time, compared to only 1 currently in the standard version. So as to be close to the Tesla Model S Plaid, the new Taycan would therefore be a superior version to the S Sport Turismo.

The Model S Plaid has nearly 1,200 horsepower for a maximum speed of 320 km/h, a 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.1 seconds and, all the same, a range of up to 690 km WLTP. The current most powerful Taycan, the S Sport Turismo version, is limited to a maximum speed of 260 km/h, a 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, with 412 km of WLTP autonomy.

To put the two sedans on an equal footing on the starting grid, Auto-ExpressQuoted by Electreck, claims according to a report that Porsche will work hard to make the Taycan the fastest vehicle of the brand. This will therefore be felt on the budget. The Taycan in standard version is available from 91,055 euros, against 194,021 euros for the Taycan Turbo S Sport Turismo. The new three-engine version of the Taycan could therefore lead to this price ceiling being exceeded.

Great races in perspective in Germany and elsewhere

This “rivalry” between Porsche and Tesla was born in particular on the legendary bitumen of the Nürburgring circuit, located in the north of the Land of Rhineland-Palatinate. Operated at regular times for the German Formula 1 Grand Prix, this circuit is best known for the Nürburgring 1,000 km endurance race. If the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S Plaid do not take place on the starting grid on this occasion, it is not the same for a lap of the track.

Since 2019 and the release of the first version of the Taycan, Porsche and Tesla have had fun regularly breaking the record for the fastest lap completed. Porsche was dethroned by the Model S Plaid in 2021, but that was without counting on the panache of the German firm, as you can see in the video below.

Porsche had however used a modified Taycan for the occasion, with a performance kit only available for the year 2023 in Germany. Perhaps it is this that will be offered on the production version of the new Taycan, which allowed Porsche to recover its record at the Nürburgring with a time of 7:33:354.
