France granted more than 800 million euros of public money to help ACC, a joint venture between Stellantis, TotalEnergies and Mercedes, to build the site in Pas-de-Calais.

The capacity of the first tranche of the Douvrin plant (Pas-de-Calais) will reach 13 gigawatt hours by the end of the year. Enough to manufacture batteries to equip around 250,000 electric cars per year.

VS’is the first “gigafactory” of electric battery cells to be created in France. With a length of 644 meters and 100 meters wide, it is located on the edge of the national road 47, between Lens and Lille. For its inauguration in Douvrin, in the Pas-de-Calais, three French ministers, Bruno Le Maire, Agnès Pannier-Runacher and Roland Lescure are present this Tuesday, May 30.

They are accompanied by the Italian Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprise, the German Volker Wissing, Minister of Transport, as well as the three bosses of the companies participating in the ACC (Automotive Cell Company) project, Carlos Tavares for Stellantis, Patrick Pouyanné for TotalEnergies and Ola Källenius for Mercedes.
